Different Ways Short Film
January 2024
Made over the course of 2023, Different Ways has been a filmmaking project based in North Ayrshire that has worked with a group of young people who have not long lived in Scotland. The result of the project is a short film commenting on some of the issues a young person can face living somewhere new.
A project I have directed under Vertex Visions, in collaboration with North Ayrshire Council and The Ayrshire Communities Trust.

It was a truly inspiring offering, displaying the multifaceted talents of both local young people and of amazingly articulate Ukrainian youths, now living in the area as a result of the Russian invasion of their homeland. It was delightful to see how such a disparate group have very obviously become true friends - an achievement brought about by their collaboration in the making of Max’s film.
The filming, directed by Max, was brilliant, capturing just how easy it is for us to form misconceptions about other people, particularly when they are ‘different.’ We were treated to beautiful scenes of the west coast of Scotland and, as the film reached its conclusion, the message was clear : we all depend on one another and it was heart warming to see the role-reversal when the ‘native’ Scots were forced to rely on the good sense of the ‘foreigner’ to help them to safety!
The film was followed by an excellent ‘behind the scenes’ documentary, giving us a glimpse of just how collaborative the whole project had been. Everyone mucked in - helping with the script, the acting, the sound - and so much more. It was a real joy to observe the genuine fun they were all having and to see just how much cooperation was involved.
All in all, it was an excellent evening and I, for one, cannot wait for their next venture! Well done Max and the entire crew!

Next Take
Beginning at the start of 2024, myself and other young filmmakers founded the organisation "Next Take" which specialises in running filmmaking projects with young people living across Scotland. Since its creation, I have been the chair person for the organisation and director of our filmmaking projects this year.
Since starting in March, the organisation has grown massively and really has created a community of young filmmakers. Next Take is currently working on a year long filmmaking project funded by Screen Scotland, which we hope to complete by May 2025.
This year Next Take has hosted 47 filmmaking workshops with young people across two different projects, as well as 7 film shoots!

I am a videographer, screenwriter and photographer living and working around Scotland. I've been interested in filmography since I was young, and have been self-taught through passion and intrigue no matter what equipment I've had to hand. I've been working freelance since finishing a part-time course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and enjoy every aspect of filmography, from corporate and documentary work, to fictional flicks.

DOCUMENTARY
I have experience working on factual documentaries as well as shorter interviews and factual films. I enjoy diving deep into a story and telling it in the most relevant way I can for screen - making it as engaging to the audience as possible.
Under the Scottish Year of Stories 2022, I was tasked with creating a short entertaining documentary to appeal for all ages focussing on the discovery of The Bearsden Shark - a prehistoric shark fossil found in Glasgow!

COMMERCIAL
As well as narrative work, I am actively seeking and really interested in commercial work - adding creative ideas to tell stories or promote a subject in the most effective way to suit a client.
I have experience promoting local businesses and telling peoples stories; both in longer form as well as short and punchy - here is some of my work!

Commissioned by UEFA Grow Report and Scottish FA, I produced a series of films to showcase the incredible impact Kilwinning Sports Club has had on the community over the last 25 years.
